EDU230 Cultural Diversity in Education

• What is culture and what are some major aspects of culture?

Culture is something that makes up a person and the community they come from. A lot of people help understand themselves because of their culture. Sometimes culture will have language, the same standards and values. 

• What is multicultural education?  What are the goals of multicultural education?

Multicultural education is an education that has a mixture of different cultures in the classroom. The teacher needs to accommodate to all their needs. The goals of multicultural education is to teach the students about other cultures and help them to learn together. The hope is to get the students to understand each other and be able to coexist all together. 

• How does multicultural education reflect responsive teaching to help meet the academic needs of diverse student populations?

Multicultural reflects responsive teaching because the teachers need to know the students needs based on their diversity. Teachers need to learn that they cant just one way and expect it to work for everyone. 

• How can multicultural education affect broader social issues that impact our society? (e.g. intercultural communication/relations, prejudice, stereotypes, crime & poverty rates, achievement gaps, etc.)

Multicultural education can help students understand the differences and struggles of other cultures. Hopefully this wold help them not make stereotypical comments and not be prejudice. If students are educated properly about this then they would have a better understanding.   

  

• What other significant insight(s) have you gained and how will this insight impact your personal/professional life?

I know that the things I have learned in this class will help me with my profession because i know I will work with many students with different backgrounds. I will be able to take the things I learned and use it in my classroom to better my students education and their relationship with each other.
